City staff are seeking new restrictions on alcohol sales under special-occasion permits at Memorial Gardens and other municipal venues.

Under changes to the City's Alcohol Risk Management Policy to be submitted for City Council approval on Monday, a maximum of two beverages can be sold to a customer at one time, and the number of alcohol tickets will be limited to six per person at one time.

Affected indoor venues include Memorial Gardens, McMeeken Centre, John Rhodes Centre, the Senior Citizens Drop-In Centre, Steelton Seniors Centre, and the Ermatinger/Clergue Heritage Site.

Outdoor venues affected by the change are Roberta Bondar Park, Clergue Park, North Street Field/Park, Queen Elizabeth Park, James Elliott Park, and the Strathclair Complex.

More Smart Serve staff required

The proposed changes also require at least one Smart Serve bartender and one ticket seller or cashier to be both behind the bar and at the ticket sales area at all times.

In addition, permit holders must ensure that tables are cleared during and after the event.

"The changes have been reviewed by municipal staff, police services and the LLBO, and bring our policy in line with current practices," says Deborah Bourne, the City's recreation and culture manager.
