A 45-year-old is facing multiple charges after allegedly biting city police officers as they tried to arrest him.

At around 2 p.m. on May 10, someone phoned 911 to report an unwanted person at a home on Arbor Drive.

Sault Police say officers dispatched to the house later learned that the suspect had previously assaulted two victims by punching, pushing and throwing an object at them.

“Officers advised the accused they were under arrest, which they ignored,” says a news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. “When officers attempted to take physical control of the accused, the accused lunged at and bit them. Officers gained physical control of the accused and, despite continued resistance, they were arrested.”

Jeremy Diotte is charged with:

  • Assault Peace Officer
  • Assault with Weapon
  • Assault x2
  • Resist Peace Officer

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Diotte is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
