U.S. First Lady stumping for Joe Biden across the river

Biden and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff are visiting Bay Mills and Sault Tribe reservations along with the Soo Locks the next two days

First Lady Jill Biden and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff are travelling across Michigan the next few days stumping for President Joe Biden.

They arrived at Kinross Chippewa County International Airport on Executive One - Fox Trot  just before 5 p.m. Thursday after visiting Marquette earlier in the day.

The will end their Michigan trip in Detroit this weekend.

During their time in Chippewa County they will visit the Bay Mills and Sault Tribe Indian Communities at scheduled times. In addition, at 1 p.m. Friday, they will tour the Soo Locks where construction continues on the new lock. 

The events are not open to the general public.

In 2018, then president Donald Trump signed into law the America's Water Infrastructure Act that authorized funding for the $922 million expansion project at the locks.

In 2022, Biden signed into the law the Water Resources Development Act that authorized to spend $3.2 billion on the new lock.

After their visit to the Soo Locks, they will head back to Kinross Chippewa County International Airport and fly downstate to Midland for a political event.
