All Canadians can learn from the example set by Saultites in preventing coronavirus spread, Mona Fortier, Canada's minister of middle-class prosperity and associate minister of finance, said Tuesday.

"Here in the Sault, you have done an excellent job of flattening the curve. You have set an example for the rest of the country," the member of Parliament for Ottawa-Vanier told a virtual town hall hosted by Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce and the Strive Young Professionals Group.

"But we can't let our guards down," Fortier said.

"We know the best way to keep the economy strong is to keep Canadians healthy."

"Our commitment to create one million jobs, to make the largest investment in Canadian history in training for workers, will make a difference in the lives of middle-class Canadians and people working hard to join us."

"These and other measures announced will help our country overcome the pandemic and come back stronger and more resilient," the minister told her audience of local business folk.

Sault MP Terry Sheehan also participated in the virtual event.

Sheehan talked about the need for continued support for the Northern Ontario tourism sector into 2021.

"We're going to have to redouble our efforts going forward because we know the second wave is here," Sheehan said.

"We know that we will live with COVID-19 up until we have our vaccine," Fortier added.

Fortier said everyone is anxious to see things return to normal with Canada as a go-to tourist destination.

"I don't think we're putting that aside, but currently, we're really putting all of our efforts into the health and safety of Canadians," she said.
