As you walk by the front entrance of Mane Street Salon at 626 Queen Street East and peer in, you start to wonder ‘is this a cafe, or more?’

Well, more (much more) is the answer, and it’s worth checking out, ladies.

The establishment extends through a series of doorways into different service areas all the way to the building’s rear door facing the Brock and Albert parking lot (where parking is free for two hours).

“You start in our reception area which is our fully-licensed cafe and lounge, we have our alcoholic beverages as well as our cappuccinos, lattes, espressos, St. Joseph Island coffee,’grab and go’ healthy lunch options such as sandwiches and wraps, and from there you go into our full service salon and spa,” said Krista Nolan, Mane Street Salon owner/operator.

“We have full hair services and full esthetic services, ranging from manicures, pedicures, facials, waxings, massages, body treatments, eyelash extensions, airbrush makeup, so we are definitely a wedding preparation spot,” Nolan smiled.

The establishment also offers a newly expanded area for Achieve Fitness & Wellness Centre.

“There’s everything from group and personal training, nutritional coaching, life coaching, an infrared sauna (with an infrared sauna, you receive the healing rays one gets from the sun without the harmful effects)…you can do anything here from weight loss to skin purification to pain relief programs,” Nolan said, adding her spa has received individuals referred from chiropractors and massage therapists.

Not only can you get pampered at Mane Street, but entertained.

“We’re looking forward to the big Downtown Street Party (scheduled for Queen Street businesses from 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Thursday July 13),” Nolan said.

“We’ll have a live jazz band playing here, set up in the back (near the hairstyling salon).  We have our live jazz band the third Thursday night of every month when we’re open late, and we’ll have ladies night with mini-manicures, half-price cocktails for ladies and charcuterie.”

That’s a lot under one roof.

“Yes, I think nowadays you have to have a one stop shop and we have everything here to service one person in terms of an entire day of wellness, from breakfast to lunch to hair services to fitness.”

A one stop shop in being pampered, in other words.

“Absolutely,” Nolan grinned.

Including herself, Nolan employs a mix of 11 full-time and part-time employees, each of them specialists in what they do.

“I really wanted to bring the big city to Sault Ste. Marie.  I like that people don’t really know what we do when they walk by, and it really draws them in, asking ‘what is this place?  I need to know more.’”

For hours of operation for the various services Nolan and her team offer, call (705) 253-4988 for Mane Street Salon & Spa, (705) 253-2348 for Achieve Fitness for Women.

The facility is open seven days a week.

Hairstylist Nolan set up shop with a small, exclusive hair salon in the rear of the building in 2002, then embarked upon a steady program of expansion.

“I really love the downtown core.  I love it down here, I’m passionate about it,” said Nolan, who is on site seven days a week.
