While it has been a difficult year for many, long-term care homes have been hit particularly hard with a number of challenges, including volunteer and visitor restrictions, long isolation periods, and trying to keep a vulnerable population safe during the pandemic.
Residents have not been able to enjoy their usual socialization with family, friends or community groups and are not able to go on the outings that they look so look forward to.
For many seniors, Christmas will be another lonely day in a year of considerable change for them.
In hopes of brightening the holiday season for seniors in our community, we wanted to deliver gifts to residents of a local long-term care home.
Extendicare Maple View has an annual giving tree program, where residents (often those without families) can put a Christmas wish on the tree and people in the community can take a wish and buy that present for the resident.
Our friends at GFL Environmental heard about the giving tree and on today's 12 Days of Christmas, they not only took care of every wish on the tree, but they also purchased a gift for every single resident at Maple View.A big thank you to our generous sponsor for this Random Acts of Kindness: GFL Environmental.
Thank you as well to OC, Hair, Bath & Body Co. for providing safety items for our video team including sanitizer and face shields.
Be sure to check out all of our 12 Days of Christmas surprises:
