VIDEO: Why people across town are sporting red today

Event supporting SickKids has Sault Ste. Marie painting the town red

A local mother has created an initiative to paint the town red in support of The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and raising awareness of Congenital Heart Disease (CHD).

Karen Lefave spearheads the second annual Sault Ste. Marie Wears Red for Congenital Heart Disease event, which challenges businesses across the city to have a dress down day, where employees can make a donation to wear something red. A number of organizations jumped on board to support the campaign, and held small fundraisers of their own, including bake sales and a charity car wash.

SooToday cameras visited some of the spots participating around town, where supporters shared their personal connection to CHD or SickKids, which inspired them to get involved in today's events.

More information on the campaign can be found on the SSM Wears Red for Congenital Heart Disease Facebook page.
