Meet Ward 5 candidate Corey Gardi

SooToday asked each of the candidates to submit a bio to introduce themselves to voters. Meet Ward 5 candidate Corey Gardi:

Born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Corey is a graduate of St. Mary’s College and Algoma University. After graduating from Algoma, Corey earned degrees at Lakehead University and Nipissing University.  Corey has been an active member of our community both politically and professionally.  He has been an educator in Sault Ste. Marie since 2000 and currently serves as the Vice – Principal of a local elementary school.  

Corey’s community involvement/volunteer experiences include:

    •    Coaching
    •    Volunteer Recruitment and Placement Coordinator - Canadian Cancer Society
    •    Family Selection Committee - Habitat for Humanity
    •    Sault Ste. Marie Planning Advisory Committee

Corey’s priorities for Ward 5 are:

    •    Proper maintenance of our roads and infrastructure
    •    Ensuring that our property standards are maintained, and that our city has the resources to do so
    •    Forming and maintaining a strong relationship with the business community to help them flourish
    •    The effective and efficient delivery of municipal services to Ward 5
    •    Ensuring that commercial trucks are following proper routes and obeying speed limits

Corey’s Council priorities are:

    •    Moving strategically towards a more knowledge based economy
    •    Fostering better relationships between Sault College, Algoma University and our business community
    •    Developing further amenities so that visitors passing through the Sault stay longer
    •    Revitalizing our downtown
    •    Extension of hub trail further west to connect Ward 5 neighbourhoods
