Superior Staff it Inc. aims to reduce social isolation for local seniors

Superior Staff It looks forward to introducing Cycling Without Age to Sault Ste Marie
spotlight

Superior Staff it Inc, which has been in operation since 2017, has always focused on catering to the needs of the elderly by providing around-the-clock healthcare support and staffing solutions to our local long-term care homes.

They are driven by a passion for supporting the community through programs, volunteering, and donations which is why it’s no surprise that Sheri-Ann Morin and her team are leading the initiative to introduce a Cycling Without Age Chapter to Sault Ste. Marie.

Cycling Without Age was started in 2012 in Copenhagen by Ole Kassow who wanted to help elders get back on their bicycles and reduce social isolation, however, he needed to find a solution to their limited mobility.

The answer? A trishaw, or rickshaw bike.

What is a trishaw bike? A trishaw bike is a three-wheeled pedal-powered machine with a pilot behind and a passenger seat up front so individuals can view the community and nature. It is constructed to be practical and stylish at the same time, and is primarily designed to carry adults, especially elderly people, but also anyone with mobility limitations.

Cycling Without Age currently has active chapters in 39 countries which includes 3050 chapters, 4900 trishaw bikes, and over 650 000 people served on 3 million rides.

Nothing beats witnessing the joy of the elderly, pilots, and personnel that interact with the Cycling Without Age initiative. Seeing the smiles of the passengers after they feel the wind in their hair and the stories they tell of their travels around their community is truly rewarding for all.

Pilots, which volunteer their time to operate the trishaw bikes, engage with their passengers while touring the neighbourhood to encourage not only a recreational experience but a social one as well.

Superior Staff it Inc.’s goal is to have a Trishaw bike purchased by summer 2023 in order to begin organizing and preparing for the first bike ride of the Cycling Without Age Sault Ste. Marie chapter.

Superior Staff it encourages the community to stay tuned on how they can get involved or support the cause so that every Sault Ste. Marie citizen has the opportunity to feel the wind in their hair.
