NorthStream debuts rapid tests that can detect coronavirus

NorthStream says the chances of false negatives are very low
COVID-19 testing

Recently, NorthStream Safety & Rehab, the Canadian company providing a variety of safety and drug awareness testing and services, entered the Sault Ste. Marie market with rapid, private COVID-19 testing. Now, NorthStream is pleased to debut molecular testing in Sault Ste. Marie, with results available in two hours or less.

Among the various types of COVID-19 tests, molecular testing stands out because it can detect the RNA of the coronavirus. The test is very sensitive, leading to a high level of accuracy even when only small amounts of the RNA are present. Since the test can detect the RNA early on in the infection process, the chance of false negatives – even among the non-symptomatic – are low.

Cory Stainthorpe, Executive Director of NorthStream, says, “Previously, we were providing results within 24 hours by shipping specimens to our other lab location which was conducting PCR tests, but now with this equipment in Sault Ste. Marie, we can offer these lab-based tests with fast results without shipping to Thunder Bay.”

It’s important to note that while there are some similarities, molecular testing is different form PCRs. Those in need of PRC testing will receive their results within 24 hours, while molecular test results are given within two hours. As this technology continues to grow in popularity and awareness, more places are accepting these highly accurate, rapid, molecular tests.
