Starting today, people needing a COVID-19 test can collect their own samples when they use a new service from the War Memorial Hospital in Sault Michigan.

The service is available Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. near the hospital's Nolte Street entrance.

People needing a test are asked to bring a pen and insurance information or another form of payment.

They are asked to pick up a test kit from the self-serve bin near the Nolte Street hospital entrance, complete the test as per instructions and return the completed test kit to the drop off box in the same area.

The test fee will be billed to insurance or there is a $50 fee for self-pay. Cheques, debit/credit cards and cash in exact change only are accepted for payment.

War Memorial Hospital reminds everyone to call their doctor or the Michigan COVID hotline (1-888-535-6136 - Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) if they are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.

Visit the Chippewa County Health Department website for more information.

Call 911 if your symptoms are life-threatening.
