U.S. border patrol agent assists in lifesaving resuscitation

SAULT STE. MARIE, MICH. - A Border Patrol agent assigned to the Sault Ste. Marie Station assisted in reviving a Bruce Township man.

On Oct. 12, 2017, at around 9 p.m., Chippewa County Central Dispatch received an emergency call request for an unresponsive subject who was not breathing.

A U.S. Border Patrol EMT-certified agent responded to the location on Riverside Drive. When he arrived, a deputy from the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office and a Department of Natural Resources Officer were attempting to revive the subject. The agent assisted with CPR until the deputy was able to utilize an automated external defibrillator (AED) to reestablish the individual’s heartbeat.

Shortly thereafter, the Advanced Life Support Unit from Chippewa County arrived and the subject was transported to War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. for further medical care.

“Rescue efforts like this show the Border Patrol's commitment to the safety of the local community,” said Henry Laxdal, patrol agent in charge of Sault Ste. Marie Station.
