Sault writer featured in upcoming Superior Poetry Cafe

SAULT STE. MARIE, MICH. - Bayliss Public Library will host its next Superior Poetry Café on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. Sault resident Beverly McBride will be the featured poet and an open mic will follow her reading. The event is free and open to the public.

Bev McBride resided in Sault Ste. Marie from 1996 to 2004 while working for the Sault Tribe Anishnabek Services. After a stint in Florida working as a Consultant for Vocational Rehabilitation, she moved back to the Sault in 2011.

She has a B.A. in Sociology, an M.A. in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of South Florida and Post Graduate study in Anthropology.

McBride has worked in various capacities as a social worker and a grant writer. She has also written for academic journals, newsletters, public policy, and obituaries for newspapers.

She currently has three fiction books and one poetry volume in print. Her poetry book Collected Poems was published last December. Her book series, One Foot in Two Canoes, is described as modern Native American fiction. Three of the planned series of seven books have been published: One Foot in Two Canoes, Up the Creek, and Without a Paddle. Book four, Getting Wet Feet, is expected to be published this fall. Each book deals with themes of maintaining balance, overcoming adversity, and developing identity.

Bev McBride works part-time at Bahweting Charter Middle School. She also coordinates National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) for the EUP with events held each November at Bayliss Library. She also participates in Bayliss Library’s Creative Endeavors support group for writers and artists.
