Access to some businesses will be temporarily interrupted Aug. 8-10 due to necessary paving work on the Michigan Department of Transportation's (MDOT) I-75 Business Spur (BS) reconstruction and roundabout project in Sault Ste. Marie.

Paving is weather dependent and is currently scheduled to take place from Wednesday through Friday on northbound I-75 BS from Mackinac Trail to Meridian Street, including commercial driveways on this stretch.

The temporary gravel access ramps leading into driveways along this section will have to be removed on the morning of the paving operation.

Access will be restored after the new asphalt pavement cools. This will result in temporary interruption to driveway access for some businesses. MDOT and the contractor will work to minimize traffic disruptions.

MDOT and the City of Sault Ste. Marie are investing $11.2 million to reconstruct 2.2 miles of roadway and construct a roundabout combining the intersections of 3 Mile Road/Mackinac Trail and I-75 BS/Mackinac Trail in Sault Ste. Marie.

The project includes modernizing two traffic signal locations. As part of the project, the city will also construct sidewalks. The project is scheduled to be constructed in phases over two years. The project began on May 29, 2018, and is expected to be completed in October 2019.

This project is expected to improve safety and traffic flow in this area.
