Father, 5-year-old son die in Drummond Island house fire

Two people have died as result of a house fire on Drummond Island Sunday night.

The Chippewa County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a "fully engulfed residential structure fire" on the island at approximately 9:50 p.m.

9-1-1 calls indicated that two people were still inside the structure at the time.

Police confirm that 30-year-old Kyle Ray Messenger and his five-year-old son both died in the house fire.

An investigation by police, with the assistance of the Michigan State Police Fire Marshall Division, is ongoing.
