Coast Guard to break ice at Drummond Island on Friday

SAULT, MI - Coast Guard Cutter Katmai Bay commences the break out of Potagannissing Bay leading into the North Channel Friday April 26, 2019.

The icebreaker will circumnavigate Drummond Island several times before the end of the day.

The Coast Guard recommends that members of the public who still recreate on the ice, particularly those who fish on ice-covered waters surrounding Drummond Island, plan their activities carefully, use caution on the rapidly deteriorating ice, and stay away from charted shipping channels.
