SAULT STE. MARIE, MI – Captain of the Port Sault Ste. Marie will close the waters between Mackinaw Island and St. Ignace, Mich. on Monday, Jan, 29, 2019 at 12 p.m. (local).

Per 33 CFR 165.944, this Captain of the Port action will steer commercial shipping and Coast Guard ice breaking activity away from the waterway to facilitate the development of ice.

The Coast Guard reminds all recreational ice users to plan their activities carefully, use caution on the ice, and stay away from ice breaking areas.
