The action taken by the City Commission modified a resolution originally adopted in 2010 that allows snowmobiles on all City right-of-ways in accordance with the regulations outline in Chapter 24, Article VI of the City of Sault Ste. Marie Code with the exception of certain streets.

The exceptions where snowmobiles are not allowed are the following:

  • I-75 Business Spur beginning at 3 Mile Road and Extending North to Portage Avenue to Easterday Avenue Hill from Davitt Street to Pine Street
  • Peck Street from Ashmun Street to Gov. Osborn Boulevard
  • Gov. Osborn Blvd. from Peck Street to Spruce Street
  • Spruce Street from Court Street west to Pine Street
  • Nolte from Memorial Drive to Pine Street
  • Memorial Drive between Nolte and Peck Street
  • Marquette Avenue from the I-75 Business Spur to Shunk Road

Snowmobilers are reminded that operation of snowmobiles on the streets or right-of-ways shall be on far right hand side of the plowed road way or on designated groomed trails.

Snowmobilers are also reminded that snowmobiles must come to a complete stop at each and every intersection even if the intersection is not posted for a required stop, and that hand motions must be used for turns and stops.
