Sault Ste. Marie and many cities across the state will be participating in the Michigan Retailers Association’s Buy Nearby Weekend Oct. 2-4, 2020. Shoppers can look forward to a weekend of special merchandise and sales from our local businesses.

One lucky winner that posts to social media with their purchase and the hashtag #buynearbymi will be entered to win a $500 gift card from the MRA.

This year, the Downtown Development Authority is teaming up with the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce to match that prize amount and offer up to $500 in Downtown Dollars and Chamber Bucks to participants who shop the Soo and post to social media with the hashtag #buynearbysoo.

MRA’s Buy Nearby Weekend is designed to encourage keeping our money in the mitten. Did you know, if 1 and 10  individuals switched out of state purchases to local stores it would create 10, 600 new jobs, $350 Million in increased income, and a $1.2 Billion increase in economic activity?
