736-foot freighter runs into pier trying to enter Soo Locks

No injuries reported

Officials at the Soo Locks are assessing damage done to a pier when a freighter ran into it on Sunday.

The U.S. Coast Guard says it was notified of the incident around 3 a.m. Sunday.

The Atlantic Huron was about to transit down bound when it ran into the west center pier of the Sault Lock, says the Coast Guard. A release from the Coast Guard says no one was injured and there are no reports of pollution.

The U.S. Coast Guard says it is working with the Army Corps of Engineers to determine the extent of damage to the pier and the vessel.
