IMO strategic decisions in boardrooms at AU and SC were informed by revenue streams and not much else. Not surprising given successive provincial governments failure to address post secondary education. IMO, the private partnerships particularly troublesome from the perspective of use of public funds but I’m sure plans were developed within what were understood as legitimate, else it’s a case of “don’t seek permission, seek forgiveness”…for SC it’s forgiveness of a third of budget.

It is unsurprising that the context of providing health services in northern Ontario remains lost on government that does not rely on or need votes from our area. Value for money audits have their purpose but are “blunt” to the realities of providing timely access to service in northern Ontario. Centralization fails when it compromises timely access to service and this example merely reflects the current government’s complete failure across the healthcare system.

EQAO scores are the proverbial canary in the coal mine. Scrapping EQAO is akin to burying your head in the sand. Altering the downward trends in math scores and improving literacy have little to do with what is taking place in the classroom. Until the fundamentals of the social and economic determinants of health and well being across all of society are addressed EQAO scores will simply remain the out of breath canary. Integrating data sets across health, economics, and social strata is essential but unlikely to happen anytime soon.

A tiny northern “university” that markets itself as an institution all about reconciliation is a national leader in maximizing its revenues from naive foreign students. Who woulda dreamed this up? Imagine the closed boardroom meetings where agenda item one was doing due diligence to ensure that any possible remains of the residential school experience were respected and addressed with complete respect and reverence. And Agenda item 2 - this is how we make $200 million from foreign students in a pseudo campus in Brampton

Been watching this for 35 years. Sad that the City is held responsible but never a viable tourist attraction. Decision long overdue.
