Dear Pazdrak family, we were shocked and saddened to learn of Teresa's passing. I was Teresa's fifth grade teacher and remember her as an enthusiastic and caring student. We happened to re-connect a couple of years ago through her work. She spoke fondly of her daughter whom we had met many, many years ago. Teresa made a difference in the life of so many. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Cecile and Charles Somme

Dear Bob, Philip and family, Know that my prayers and thoughts are with you at this time. Glenda was a wonderful person - a great friend and colleague. I worked with Glenda for many years at St. Pius X School. I also knew Glenda when she worked at D.C. Thorp School ad taught her son, Philip at St. Thomas School.. Glenda was always so warm and welcoming. In addition, she had a great sense of humour. May your memories be a blessing. - Cecile Somme

What do you think of the government's decision to put Ontario into full lockdown starting Dec. 26?

A mall store manager told me that people from the GTA, the U.S. and other places in Ontario were shopping in the store and in the mall. We need to continue to be vigilant as there are some selfish people; some who disregard the precautions (of physically distancing, and wearing a mask) and some who are travelling to our area.

Perhaps, where the kids go can be arranged. In other words, a group of parent friends can agree that their houses would be the only ones that children would visit. This way, families are known to each other and it is safe ('cause no strangers' homes would be visited).

Have been in audience on "Price as Right" with family members and so particularly enjoy this program. (In addition, a family member was a contestant and won a number of prizes, including two trips.)

Right on! Classroom footage does not allow for 2 meter physical distancing for the average class size.. The maximum number that should be in an elementary class during the pandemic should be 15.

Classroom floor footage does not allow for 2 meter physical distancing for more than 20 students. Elementary classrooms should be capped at 15 during the pandemic. And there are other concerns, ie. Movement of French teacher from classroom to classroom. I realize that this is to provide preparation time for the classroom teacher. Perhaps the school day could be 4 hours instead of five and the classroom's preparation time can be after the children leave to go home for the day.
I do realize that some parents really have no choice as they work.
We do have a choice so will keep the children home and see how this experiment works.

Much thought was put into the government's plan, however, there are still some gaps. As a retired educator and grandmother, I am CONCERNED THAT CAPS (limit on numbers) for elementary students were not addressed. Some elementary classes had 27 students; at least one kdg class had 30 students last year. Parents of elementary students, find out how many students will be in your child's class. Personally, I am advising my children NOT to put my grandchildren in school in September. (In Florida, more than 335 children are hospitalized & a few (I think 9) have died because of covid-19. ONE child is too many. ) We'll wait to see how this experiment is working!
Other concerns: French teachers moving class to class; occasional teachers going into various classes; long lunch breaks (and children mixing). The instructional day could have been shortened to 4 hours if preparation time for teachers was a concern. (That means teachers would need to remain the full day, however.)
