Woman charged in Highway 17 single-vehicle collision

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – On September 1, 2016, at approximately 4 p.m., Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) assisted by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, Sault Ste. Marie Fire Department and Garden River Fire and Rescue responded to a single vehicle rollover on Highway 17 East, one kilometre east of the intersection of Highway 17 and 17B.

A vehicle travelling westbound left the roadway and rolled over crossing the median and into the eastbound lane of Highway 17.

The driver and lone occupant received non life threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

The vehicle had to be towed.

Julia Leonard, 56 years of age, of Winnipeg, Manitoba was charged with: Unsafe Move – Lane or Shoulder contrary to section 154(1)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.
