FORT FRANCES, Ont. – A Fort Frances-area woman faces multiple charges after a passenger in her vehicle died in an accident late Saturday night.

OPP officers with the Rainy River District detachment responded to a collision on Highway 11/71 in Alberton Township, just west of Fort Frances, at approximately 11:59 p.m. Saturday.

A pickup truck travelling westbound on the highway had lost control, rolling over and coming to rest in the ditch, police say.

A passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Matthew Parise, 27, of Rainy River, has been identified as the deceased.

Kendra Morrison, also 27, of nearby Chapple, was identified as the driver.

After speaking with her at the scene, police officers determined Morrison was impaired by alcohol.

Morrison was arrested and brought to the Fort Frances Hospital for breath testing and medical treatment, police say.

Morrison now faces charge of operation of a motor vehicle causing death contrary to section 320.14(3) of the Criminal Code, operation while impaired (with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus), and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death contrary to section 320.13(3) of the Criminal Code, according to an OPP release issued Sunday afternoon.

The accused is being held in custody and is expected to appear in bail court on Monday in Fort Frances.

Highway 11/71 has since re-opened.
