Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service (WTPS) and Manitoulin OPP reported on social media that the armed and dangerous person involved in the shelter in place in Wiikwemkoong First Nation is in custody.

“There is no further risk to public safety,” the Facebook post says. “The shelter in place has been lifted.”

A Public Safety Alert was issued province-wide on Tuesday. OPP asked residents of Wikwemikong to report any suspicious people to police.

Schools in the area remained closed on Wednesday “out of an abundance of caution.”

Police were searching the area for 39-year-old Luke Naokeegijig, but did not disclose the nature of the circumstances that prompted the shelter in place order.
