Visit to Thessalon leads to charges for Barrie resident

A Barrie resident was arrested in Thessalon on Sunday morning after officers responded to a domestic dispute call in the area.

A news release issued today by the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) states that the individual in question is prohibited from visiting the Town of Thessalon and communicating with the victim.

Full text of the OPP news release follows:

THESSALON - On May 16, 2021 shortly after 9:50 a.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a domestic dispute in the Town of Thessalon.

Investigation determined an ex-spouse had pulled into a driveway and drove away. A query revealed the individual was on conditions not to attend the Town of Thessalon and not to communicate with the victim. At 10:55 a.m., OPP officers located the individual hiding in a residence on Federation Street and an arrest was made.

As a result, a 25-year-old from, Barrie was charged with:
    •    Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the Criminal Code (three counts)
    •    Driving while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail in Blind River on May 17, 2021 and was remanded into custody.
