Vehicleless man stopped at RIDE check. Drug trafficking charges follow

On Monday, April 23, 2018 at approximately 3 a.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Sault Ste. Marie Detachment had occasion to investigate a male person on foot while conducting R.I.D.E checks on Frontenac Street, Batchewana First Nation. The investigation revealed that the male was in breach of his conditions.

As a result Curtis Matthew Daynard of Sault Ste Marie, Ont. was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Adult fail to comply with recognizance contrary to section 145(3) of the Criminal Code of Canada,
  • Two counts adult fail to comply with probation order contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada,
  • Adult possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act,
  • Adult possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - other drugs contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The accused was held into custody pending a bail hearing in Sault Ste Marie, Ont.
