Vehicle impounded for 45 days

BLIND RIVER - On July 5, 2017, shortly before 2 a.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.

Police observed a westbound vehicle on Causley Street and initiated a traffic stop. The driver did not have a driver's licence. Investigation determined there was no insurance for the vehicle and the plates weren't authorized for that vehicle.

The vehicle was towed and impounded for 45 days.

As a result of the investigation, Bruce Armstrong, 50 years of age from Wikwemikong, Ont., was charged with:

  • Drive while under suspension (x3), contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA);
  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle, contrary to section 12(1)(d) of the HTA; and with
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Aug. 30, 2017.
