Unresponsive driver charged with impaired

Goulais River man loses license for 90 days in advance of court appearance

A call for an unresponsive driver on Highway 522 in Goulais River resulted in impaired charges by the Sault Ste. Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, the 19th of 2022, according to a news release.

On Nov. 26, 2022 at approximately 1 a.m., police determined the driver in the westbound lane of the highway had consumed alcohol. They were subsequently arrested and transported to the Sault Ste Marie OPP detachment for further testing. The District of Sault Ste Marie Paramedic Services and Goulais Fire and Rescue assisted with the call.

James Pitt, 25, of Goulais River was charged with: Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to Section 320.14 (1) (a) of the Criminal Code; Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to Section 320.14 (1) (b) of the CC Drive motor vehicle with cannabis readily available, contrary to section 12(1) of the Controlled Cannabis Act, the release stated.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste Marie on Dec. 19. The accused was issued a 90-day administrative drivers licence suspension and the vehicle impounded for 14 days.
