Two charged in break and enter investigation

Both have pending court dates in the Sault

ECHO BAY - On Aug. 8, 2018, members from the Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment, Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), Sault Ste. Marie Crime Unit and the Forensic Identification Unit (FIS) commenced an investigation into several break enters and thefts.

As a result of an on-going investigation, the OPP have arrested and charged two males.

Matthew Cyr, 18 years old from Batchawana First Nation, Ont. was charged with the following:

  • Break and enter a place - commit an indictable offence contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 - in Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Feb. 25, 2019 at 426 Queen St., Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.

Braiden Eshkakogan, 23 years old from Sagamok Anishnawbek First Nation was charged with the following:

  • Break and enter a place - commit an indictable offence contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on April 22, 2019 at 426 Queen St., Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.

The OPP advise the investigation is still on going. Any person with information regarding the person(s) responsible for this incident should immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or their nearest police authority.
