Two charged after garbage dumped at Wakomata Lake

Two men from Windsor have been charged after garbage was found dumped in a wooded area at Wakomata Lake north of Thessalon.

The pair were made to pick up the trash and dispose of it at a local landfill site.

Full text of a news release issued by the Ontario Provincial Police follows:

JACKSON TOWNSHIP - On June 26, 2020 shortly after 5 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a complaint where two individuals dumped four garbage bags in a bush area at Wakomata Lake Boat Launch Road in Jackson Township (north of Thessalon).

Police attended the scene and observed animals had gotten into the garbage bags and the two individuals had left the area in a pickup truck towing a travel trailer. Over the next few days, officers continued to patrol the campsites in the area for the duo. On the evening of July 3, 2020, the two individuals were located in the Aubrey Lake area.

As a result of the investigation, Douglas Durham, age 40; and Kyle Durham, age 26, both of Windsor, Ont. were both issued provincial offence notices and charged with:
    •    Unlawfully cause to be deposited any material, substance or thing on public lands, contrary to section 27(1)(9) of the Public Lands Act

The complainants picked up the garbage and disposed of it at the local landfill site.
