Two arrested for assault following 'family disturbance' in Goulais

GOULAIS RIVER – On March 22, 2020 at approximately 8:30 p.m. members from the Sault Ste. Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Sault Ste. Marie Ambulance were dispatched to a family disturbance on Mission Road, Goulais River, Ontario.  

Officers attended the scene and located one person with minor injuries. The person was treated for their injuries and did not attend hospital.  

As a result of further investigation, a 36-year-old person from Goulais River, Ont. was arrested and charged with the following:   

  • Assault causing bodily harm - spousal, contrary to section 267(b) of the Criminal Code (CC),  
  • Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm - spousal, contrary to section 264.1(1) of the CC,  

A second person, who is 31 years old, from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., was also arrested and charged with the following:   

  • Assault - Spousal, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC),    

The accused are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on June 10, 2020 located at 426 Queen St., Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.
