Transport blocks highway, delays snow removal. Driver charged

Area of Highway 17 and Highway 548 was blocked

TARBUTT-TARBUTT ADDITIONAL TOWNSHIP - On Jan. 9, 2019 shortly before 8 a.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and a member of the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) responded to a traffic complaint where a tractor trailer was blocking half the road and impeding with snow removal near the junction of Highway 17 and Highway 548 within Tarbutt-Tarbutt Additional Township.

Police arrived a short time later and observed the tractor trailer to be blocking half of the outside westbound lane on Highway 17 and it was obvious that the snowplows had to go around the tractor trailer while they were attempting to clear the snow off the highway.

As a result of the investigation, Graham Blandford, 64 years of age, from Oshawa, Ont. was issued two provincial offence notices and charged with:

  • Fail to Maintain Daily Log, contrary to section 190(3) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA); and with
  • Interfere with Snow Removal, contrary to section 170(12) the HTA.
