Traffic stop leads to impaired charge in Wawa

Police say the 30-year-old was also driving with a suspended licence

A Wawa man faces multiple charges following a traffic stop earlier this week, Superior East OPP said in a news release today.

Police say he was also prohibited from driving.

On Nov. 27, 2021 at approximately 12:07 a.m., members of the Superior East Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Klondike Street in Wawa. During the investigation, the driver was found to be impaired by drug. The driver was also prohibited from operating a motor vehicle. 

As a result, Kristopher Mokroer-Makowski, 30 years-of-age, of Wawa has been charged with the following:

  • Driving while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) (Two Counts),
  • Operation While Prohibited, contrary to section 320.18(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the CC, and
  • Failure to comply with release order, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the CC (Two Counts).

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Dec. 6, 2021 in Wawa.
