Traffic stop in Thessalon First Nation leads to suspended driving charge

Police have laid charges against a suspended driver in Thessalon First Nation.

OPP say on Friday they were on patrol duties on Maple Ridge Rd. in the Territory of Thessalon First Nation when they observed a vehicle and initiated a traffic stop shortly after 3:30 p.m.

Police report the driver could not provide proof of insurance, a query of the vehicle plates revealed they had expired in 2001, and the driver was suspended.

As a result, Theodore Bisaillon, age 54, from Thessalon First Nation was charged with:

  • Operate motor vehicle - no insurance, contrary to section 2(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act;
  • Driving while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA); and with  
  • Use plates not authorized for motor vehicle, contrary to section 12(1)(d) of the HTA.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Provincial Offences Court in Sault Ste Marie on Dec. 2, 2020.
