Traffic complaint leads to impaired charges in Espanola

A Toronto driver has been charged with operation while impaired while another is facing a similar charge after a suspicious vehicle call in Webbwood

A driver from Toronto is facing a pair of impaired charges after the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a traffic complaint on Friday.

At approximately 12:35 p.m., the Manitoulin Detachment of the OPP responded to the complaint and the vehicle was eventually located in Espanola.

Following an investigation, 29-year-old Shantel Hibbs of Toronto is facing a pair of charges, including:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC), and
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to section 320.14(1)(b)CC.

Meanwhile, earlier in the week, a driver from Webbwood is also facing an impaired charge after OPP officers responded to a suspicious vehicle call.

Police received the call on Aug. 11 in regards to a suspicious vehicle on First Street in Webbwood.

After an investigation, 38-year-old Clayton Sheppard of Webbwood is facing a charge of Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC).

On Friday in Espanola, OPP officers responded to a call of an assault in a business parking lot that led to a charge for a 51-year-old from Massey.

Arlene Fournier has been charged with assault contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code of Canada.
