BLIND RIVER - On Nov. 27, 2017 at 7:34 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were on general patrol duties on Highway 17 (Causley Street) in the town of Blind River.

Police observed a westbound tractor trailer travelling at a high rate of speed and conducted a subsequent traffic stop. Upon speaking to the male driver, a strong odour of alcohol was detected emanating from his breath. As a result, the male was arrested, driver's license suspended, and the vehicle was towed and impounded.

Joey Chambers, 45 years of age, from Porcupine, Ont., was charged with:

  • Care or control over 80 mgs, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Speeding 1 - 49 km/h over posted limit, contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Dec. 21, 2017.
