Three Sault men charged in vehicle theft investigation

MUNICIPALITY OF HURON SHORES - On June 18, 2018 shortly after 7 a.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was informed that a motor vehicle (pickup truck) and trailer had been stolen from Sault Ste. Marie earlier in the morning. The truck was equipped with a GPS tracking device which allowed the owner to ascertain its location.

The East Algoma OPP observed the pickup truck and trailer travelling eastbound on McFadden Drive, Municipality of Huron Shores, Ont. The pickup truck came to a stop and the suspects fled into the bush.

The area was contained and with the assistance of the OPP Canine Unit and the North East Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), three suspects were arrested. 

Mark Edward Strain, 33 years old, from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. was charged with:

  • Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to Section 733.1 (1) of the Criminal Code of Canada,
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000, contrary to Section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (X2)

Jordan Matthew Cody Wagner, 26 years old, from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. was charged with:

  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000, contrary to Section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (X2)

Darrel William Dowding, 44 years old, from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. was charged with:

  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000, contrary to Section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (X2)

Strain and Wagner were released on a Promise to Appear in Blind River Court on Aug. 2, 2018. Dowding is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River, Ont. on June 19, 2018.
