Three charged with possession after vehicle stop

ELLIOT LAKE – On Jan. 24, 2017, at 1:41 p.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Emergency Response Team (ERT) and East Algoma (OPP) members conducted a traffic stop on Valley Crescent in Elliot Lake.

As a result of the stop, and a later search of a residence, police seized numerous prescription pills, illegal drugs, drug-related paraphernalia, electronic devices, identification cards, weapons, and approximately $3,000 in cash. The following people were charged:

Jan Rene Wilen, 44 years of age, of Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Percocet (X2) contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamines known as Crystal Meth, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
  • Possession of a Schedule IV substance for the purpose of trafficking – Clonazepam, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance – Cocaine (X2), contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, contrary to section 88 of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 – in Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Weapon (X2), contrary to section 92(2) of the CC
  • Identity Theft – obtain or possess another person’s identity information, contrary to section 402.2(1) of the CC

Britney Kingsbury, 24 years of age, of Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, contrary to section 88 of the CC
  • Possession of Prohibited Device for Dangerous Purpose, contrary to section 88 CC
  • Driving while Under Suspension, contrary to section 53 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)

The accused persons appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on Jan. 26, 2017.

Curtis Bowles, 25 years of age, of Elliot Lake, Ontario, was also charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance – Cocaine, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, contrary to section 88 of the CC

This accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Feb. 28, 2017.
