Thessalon driver charged following Highway 638 collision

PLUMMER ADDITIONAL - On April 27, 2019 at approximately 2:35 p.m., members of the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police received a report of a motor vehicle collision on Highway 638.

Police attended and learned the male driver had been transported to hospital. The male suffered non-life threatening injuries.

As a result of the investigation, Stephen Mercer, a 46-year-old male from Thessalon, Ont. was charged with the following:

  • Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor, contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor Licence Act; and
  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle, contrary to section 12(1)(d) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA); and
  • Fail to apply for permit on becoming the owner, contrary to section 11(2) of the HTA; and
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie to answer to his charges.
