Saultite charged for speeding with a suspended licence

Driver faces two Highway Traffic Act charges

BLIND RIVER - On Jan. 21, 2019, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol on Highway 17 within the Town of Blind River west of Frampet Drive.

Shortly before 2 p.m., police observed a westbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. A vehicle stop was initiated and as the officer queried the female driver's licence it revealed that she was suspended.

As a result of the investigation, (the accused), 30 years of age from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. was charged with: 

  • Drive under suspension - unpaid fines, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA); and with
  • Speeding, contrary to section 128 of the HTA.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on March 20, 2019.
