BLIND RIVER – On Jan. 13, 2017, shortly after 7:30 a.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint of an eastbound vehicle that was tailgating and all over the road, east of the Town of Thessalon.
Shortly after 8 a.m., police observed a vehicle matching the description on Highway 17 at Mississauga First Nation. A traffic stop was initiated.
When speaking with the driver, the officer determined the driver had been consuming alcohol. Further investigation revealed that the motor vehicle was stolen from Sault Ste. Marie.
As a result, Angelina Trudeau, 22 years of age, from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, was charged with:
- Driving while ability impaired-motor vehicle (alcohol), contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);
- Driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the CC;
- Theft over $5,000 of a motor vehicle, contrary to section 334(a) of the CC;
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, contrary to section 355(a) of the CC; and
- Driving while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Feb. 9, 2017.
