Sault driver charged in Highway 17 crash near Sudbury

Police say the eastbound car crossed the centre line and crashed into a westbound tractor trailer

A Sault Ste. Marie driver, 77, has been charged following a crash on Highway 17 near Sudbury.

Police say on Tuesday around 6:55 a.m., OPP responded to a collision involving two vehicles on Highway 17 at Long Lake Rd., City of Greater Sudbury.

OPP say the eastbound car crossed the centre line and crashed into a westbound tractor trailer.

The driver of the car, a Sault resident, was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

The driver of the car was charged with careless driving, drive while under suspension, drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit, operating a motor vehicle on a highway with no insurance.

The highway was closed for approximately three and a half hours while crews removed the vehicles and debris from the roadway.
