TOWNSHIP OF THE NORTH SHORE, Ont. - March 11, 2018, shortly before 3 p.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision rollover on Highway 17 just east of the Highway 108 turn off in the Township of the North Shore.
A westbound vehicle drove off the roadway onto the shoulder then swerved into the eastbound lane crossing the yellow line and swerved back into the westbound lane and continued down an embankment rolling several times into a ditch.
While waiting for police, a good Samaritan assisted the two females by letting them sit in his vehicle. As he exited his vehicle the two females decided to steal his vehicle heading westbound on Highway 17 towards Blind River. Police observed the stolen vehicle turn onto Air Service Road in Algoma Mills. Police quickly located the abandoned vehicle and a search of the area resulted in the two involved females being arrested.
Police determined the vehicle involved in the rollover was stolen from Waterloo, Ontario shortly after 4:30 a.m. on this date.
As a result of the investigation, Deinaira Doxtator, 20 years of age from Kitchener, Ontario was charged with:
- Theft Under $5000, contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code (CC);
- Possession of Proceeds Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 (X2), contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC;
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 249 1(a) of the CC;
- Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer, contrary to section 249.1(1) of the CC; and with
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC
The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail Court in Blind River on March 12, 2018 and was remanded into custody.
A 29-year-old female was transported to local hospital in Sudbury with non-life threatening injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
