Report of swerving pickup truck leads to impaired charges for Michigan driver

TOWNSHIP OF NORTH SHORE - On Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2019 at 9:14 p.m., members of the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 17 in the Township of North Shore.

The investigation has since revealed that a pickup truck was observed to be swerving all over the road. Police located the vehicle shortly thereafter and a traffic stop was conducted. Police spoke with the driver and determined that he had consumed alcohol.

As a result of the investigation, Lorne Shipman, a 52-year-old from Brimley, Mich. was arrested and charged with:

  • operation while impaired - alcohol, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC); and
  • operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC)

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River, Ont. on Sept. 5, 2019.
