Police stop two area drivers for speeding. Find them with suspended licenses

In unrelated incidents, a driver from Hilton Beach and one from Serpent River First Nation were stopped for allegedly speeding
highway freeway stock

JOHNSON TOWNSHIP - On Oct. 20, 2017, a member from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division (HSD) Sault Ste Marie Unit was on regular patrol on Highway 17 near the Town of Desbarats.

Shortly before 10:30 a.m., the officer observed a westbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 17 and a traffic stop was initiated. The officer determined the driver was suspended and seized his driver's licence.

As a result of the investigation, Darcy McIntosh, 29 years of age from Hilton Beach, Ont. was charged with:

  • Driving while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA); and with
  • Speeding, contrary to section 128 of the HTA.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste Marie on Dec. 13, 2017

ELLIOT LAKE - On Oct. 20, 2017, a member from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division (HSD) Sault Ste Marie Unit was on regular patrol on Highway 108 south of the City of Elliot Lake.

Shortly after 2:30 p.m., the officer observed a southbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 108 and a traffic stop was initiated. The driver could not produce a valid driver's licence and the investigation determined the driver was suspended. The vehicle was towed and impounded.

As a result of the investigation, Charles Lewis, 32 years of age from Serpent River First Nation, Ont. was charged with:

  • Driving while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA);
  • Drive motor vehicle - no licence, contrary to section 32(1) of the HTA; and with
  • Speeding, contrary to section 128 of the HTA.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Dec. 6, 2017.
