Plummer township resident faces serious charges in domestic incidents

Charges include uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm-spousal and assault

A common-law couple's argument escalated to an assault on Friday.

East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated further, learning there had been five other assaults by a 46-year-old Plummer Road person who now faces six counts of assault.

The full text of a release from police follows.

PLUMMER ADDITIONAL TOWNSHIP, ON - On Oct. 17, 2020, shortly after 1 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a domestic assault that occurred the previous night on Plummer Road in Plummer Additional Township. 

Investigation determined on October 16, 2020, at approximately 10:30 p.m., a common-law couple had an argument where it escalated to where the victim was physically assaulted several times. While speaking to police the victim disclosed there had been other assaults that took place between June 25, 2020, and October 5, 2020. 

On Oct. 17, 2020, at approximately 5 p.m., police made an arrest and as a result of the investigation a 46-year-old, from Plummer Additional Township was charged with:

  • 6 Counts of Assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Mischief -Domestic, contrary to section 430(4) of the CC;
  • Uttering Threats-Cause Death of Bodily Harm-Spousal, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC; and with
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, contrary to section 91(1) of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on December 3, 2020.
