Names released in Highway 17 double fatality

SUDBURY - On Nov. 8, 2017 at 12 p.m. officers from the Sudbury Detachment of The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), The Sudbury Fire Department and the Sudbury-Manitoulin District Emergency Medical Services (EMS), responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 17, at Middle Lake Road, Sudbury.

The investigation has revealed that a westbound motor vehicle driven by Guy Forget, 63 years of age from French River, Ont. crossed the centre line and struck an eastbound pickup truck driven by Barry Brechin, 70 years of age from Bruce Mines, Ont. Both drivers were pronounced deceased at the scene.

A 55-year-old female passenger in the pickup truck remains in hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Highway was re-opened at 5:30 p.m. last night. The Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) continue to investigate.
