Motorcycle operator charged with stunt driving

JOHNSON TOWNSHIP - On Sept. 10, 2017, members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol on Highway 17 in Johnson Township.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m., police observed an eastbound motorcycle travelling at a speed over 155 kilometres per hour in a 90 kilometres per hour zone and a traffic stop was initiated.

As a result of the investigation, Carlos Mendonca, 59 years of age from Bruce Mines, Ont., was charged with: drive motor vehicle-perform stunt speeding by 50 or more kilometres per hour, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The driver's vehicle was impounded and driver's licence seized for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on Oct. 4, 2017.
