Man accused of firing pellet gun during domestic disturbance

THESSALON FIRST NATION - On Aug. 12, 2018, shortly before 1 p.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police responded to a domestic disturbance on the Territory of Thessalon First Nation.

Investigation determined that a common-law couple had engaged in a heated argument. The female decided to leave and was removing items from the home when (it is alleged that) her husband physically assaulted her. While her sons were assisting with her move and as they were placing property in her vehicle, the husband then (allegedly) shot the rear passenger window out of her car with a pellet gun. A second shot could be heard hitting the vehicle as it was driving away. 

As a result of the investigation, a 52-year-old male from Thessalon First Nation, Ont., was charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon - spousal, contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Mischief - domestic, contrary to section 430(4) of the CC; and with
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, contrary to section 88 of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Sept. 6, 2018.
